- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- Leaves entire, linear, acute at the apex.
- Height: 10-50 cm. Plant glabrous with a slender root.
- Stem ascending, sharply 4-angled, angles with recurved and hooked prickles. Plant climbing.
- Leaves 6-8 in whorls, lanceolate, linear, mucronate, hairless above and with small backwardly directed hooked prickles on the margins and the midvein beneath.
- Flowers whitish, small, 2 mostly 3 in axillary cymes. Peduncle 3-12 mm long. Rough bracts.
- Fruit warty, big, 1.5-3 mm.Dry fruit 2-carpelled with recurved hooked prickles or smooth.
- Plant more calcicolous than the other bedstraws.
- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with the other species of Galium except Galium aparine L. (hooking plant).
