- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.

- Leaves entire, linear, acute at the apex.

- Height: 15-50 cm. Plant glabrous with a slender root.

- Stem 4-angled, with a quick lengthening for the first whorl of 4-5 leaves.

- Leaves 6 in whorls, linear-lanceolate, mucronate, scabrous.

- Flowers reddish-green, in lengthened narrow panicle almost borne at the base of the stem, with short erect-spreading peduncles. Peduncle 3-6 times as long as the fruiting bract. Corolla very small with acute lobes.

- Fruits very small, glabrous, minutely granulate.

- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with the other species of Galium except Galium aparine L. (hooking plant).

- Biological type: Annual.
