- Cotyledons elliptic to ovate, rounded tip, more or less stalked.
- Leaves entire, linear, acute at the apex.
- Height: 10-30 cm. Plant glabrous with a very slender stem.
- Stem erect, branched, 4-angled. Stem smooth above and rough below.
- Leaves 6-7 in whorls, spreading, linear-lanceolate, mucronate.
- Flowers greenish or pink, in lax cyme with very spreading to reflexed peduncles. Very slender inflorescence -divisions, circa 6-10 times broader than the little inflorescence-bracts. Corolla with spreading lobes joined just near the base. Calyx small-dentate and not persistent on the ripe fruit. Stamens developed before the style and the stigma.
- Fruit very small, wrinkled, with 2 divaricate carpels when ripe.
- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with the other species of Galium except Galium aparine L. (hooking plant).
