- Cotyledons very narrow and lengthened (up to 10 times longer than wide).

- Leaves pinnately divided.

- Stem slender or relatively robust, erect, scrambling or climbing.

- Leaves lower in rosette ; leaves blue-green, 2-pinnatisect with ovate -lanceolate segments.

- Flowers pink or reddish (9-12 mm) in lax raceme. Sepals toothed, ovate (3-5 x 1.5-3 mm): petals purple-blotched at the apex. Bracts shorter than the slender ascending or spreading pedicel.

- Fruit : indehiscent capsule very variable with one seed, subglobose, unbeaked acute tip.Fruit dry and smooth when ripe. Pedicel straight and spreading.

- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with the other species of Fumaria .

- Biological type: Annual.
