- Leaves entire, shining, obcordate blade, long-stalked, with sheathing base, often alternate, with a lengthened brown blotch.
- Flowers bright-yellow, stellate, sepals 3, petals 6-12 yellow shiny above. Flowers slightly swollen at base and easily falling. Carpels very often sterile. Seeds often aborting; production of aerial bulbils.
