- Cotyledons elongate, spoonlike, glabrous.

- Leaves entire, elliptical or ovate, margin entire.


Adult plant:

- Height: 30-200cm. Plant pubescent, hispid.

- Stem strong, erect sometimes branched from the base. Stem hairy, grooved, very foliate.

- Basal leaves in rosette, entire,stalked, ovate-elliptical, dentate. Upper leaves first elliptic- dentate, then lanceolate - dentate nearly lobed, narrowing in a leafy stalk, white hairs short or long. Stem leaves alternate and pubescent.

- Flowers white (sometimes pink) in heads, ray -florets no longer than the disk-florets, less than 1 mm long. Upper head 1 cm in diameter and gathering 50-100 flowers.

- Fruits : achenes with a reddish pappus.

- Spreading in crops. Paraquat resistant populations in Japan.

- Risk of confusion with Conyza canadensis .

- Biological type: annual or biennial.
