- Cotyledons spoon-like.
- Leaves entire, elliptic or ovate, entire-margined.
- Height: 30-90 cm.
- Stem tall usually many-branched, red-tinged, 4 angled, glabrous.
- Leaves lower obovate in rosette ; upper leaves lanceolate, opposite, denticulate, shining light-green, 20-80 x 5-20 mm, sessile, tapered into a long point, margin with very closed teeth.
- Flower pink, very small (4-6 mm), with long reddish ovary and globose stigma. Flowers erect in lengthened panicle, slightly exceeding the calyx.
- Fruits hairy. Seeds 1-1.5 mm, obovate, long-haired.
- Plant ornamental used for clumps and rock gardens, very melliferous; used as counter-irritant, resolutive and astringent. Populations exist which are resistant to triazines in France and Germany.
