- Height : 30-150 cm.

- Stem : erect, vigorous, trigonous, leafy only at the base; stolon horizontal, long and thin.

- Leaves : 6-8 mm wide, the floral leaves narrower 3 to 5 mm, one of them rather longer, apparently continuing from the stem.

- Inflorescence : compound umbel with many rays 3-15 cm, 3-4 bracts foliaceous, the lower 20-30 cm; spikelets 10-20-flowered, 6-20x2 mm, dark red, strictly lanceolate ; pistil with 2 stigmas.

- Fruit : nut lenticular, pale brown.

- Risk of confusion with: other species of the same genus.

- Biological type : perennial.
