- Cotyledons very narrow elongated( 10 times longer than large)
- Divided leaves, pinnate. First leaves divided into 5 segments.
- Height: 10-40 cm.
- Glabrous stem, strigose or hairy;stem with numerous branches.
- Lower leaves in rosette, greyish-green, similar to seedling, divided with narrow, short lobes. Leaves tripinnatisect with ascending number of segments; ridged petiole terminated in large membranous and hairy leaf. Erect hairs on underside of leaf sheath.
- Flowers white or rose, small, in umbel 2-4 ridged rays.
- Fruits : achenes typical of umbellifers, tall, elliptical (8-10 x 4-5 mm) terminated by hooked prickle at top. Persistent carpophore on inflorescence after fruit fall.
- Species decreasing in crops.
