- Cotyledons elliptical, rounded tip, more or less petiolate.
- Entire lanceolate leaves, more or less dentate.
- Height: 8-30 cm. Pubescent.
- Stem erect procumbent, branched, covered by small hairs and with spread ramification.
- Lower leaves attenuated at base, without petiole. Middle leaves ovate -elongated amplexicaul, without petiole. Cauline leaves oblong to lanceolate. Leaves more or less hairy.
- Yellow flowers in tall capitulum. Bracts of pale green involucre, very rarely orange-colour, reddish or purple at their tip; bracts ovate-elongated terminate in point.
- Recurved unequal fruits, middle fruits rolled in smooth or spiky bent annulus, spiky external fruits, bordered by entire membrane.
- Leaves of the plant with highly pronounced smell. Sometimes cultivated like decorative plant. Palatable to sheep and cows, but not to pigs. All plant is sudorific, resolutive, antiscorbutic.
