- Cotyledons elliptical to ovate, with rounded tip more or less petiolate.
- Entire leaves, lanceolate, more or less dentate.
- Height: 30-80 cm. Green-whitish.
- Stem erect, angular and often branched, slender and elongated branches clustered.
- Lower leaves in rosette ; pinnatipartite leaves, petiolate with variable shape. Older leaves with distant lobes, divided with numerous lateral segments. Black spots on lamina.
- Blue, tubulous flowers in capitulum ; involucre with imbricate bracts bordered by short silvered hairs.
- Fruits : yellowish achenes surrounded by reddish pappus.
- Plant's flower is popular astrigent medicine, used in cases of inflammatory infection of the eye.
