- Cotyledons very narrow, elongated (>10 times longer than wide). Establishment from seedling via hypogeal germination.
- Height: 30-70 cm.
- Stem finely striate, angular along its length, slightly leafy.
- Lower leaves bi-tripinnatisect, linear, thin and outline nearly triangular. Sessile cauline leaves.
- White flower in umbel, 6-20 rays. Involucre composed of 6-10 very pointed bracts. Involucels are also formed by several bracts. Calyx terminated at top by 5 very short teeth.
- Fruits achenes nearly x2 longer than wide and not narrow at base tip (3mm). Black brown with shiny walls. Aromatic smell and slightly pungent taste. Persistent carpophore on inflorescence after fruit fall.
- Plant with nutritive tubers, similar taste to chestnut and which can be eaten. Species rare in crops.
