- Shoot rolled, cylindrical leaf sheath.
- Lamina 20-50 times longer than large, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous dentate, auricles absent.
- Height: 20-60 cm. Cespitose.
- Stem lanate, hairy at fibrous root. Stem slender, finely pubescent in top.
- Leaves lanate, smooth, pubescent. Leaf sheath fused to 2/3 of it's length. Basal leaf sheath with maroon striations.
- Inflorescence : green or purplish panicle, unilateral, inclined, with short clustered branches, surrounded, flexuous, smooth, half-verticillate. Spikelets 20-3 cm, oblong inside, smooth inclined with 5-9 aristate, divergent florets. Unequal glumes 1-3 veins ; lower lanceolate, carinate with 7 weak veins, bifid, with straight awn.
