- Shoot rolled, cylindrical leaf sheath.
- Lamina 20-50 times longer than large, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous dentate, auricles absent.
- Height: 30-80 cm. Cespitose, hairy.
- Stem erect.
- Leaves smooth pale green. Lamina and leaf sheath abundantly hairy, purplish/rose veins. Cauline leaves with pubescent lamina and glabrous leaf sheath. Leaf sheath fused upto 2/3 of its length.
- Inflorescence : purplish or green panicle, very slack with long inclined branches, clustered. Multiflorous spikelets, widened at top; lower glume of each narrow spikelet with 2 small teeth at top and extended by awn which is not bent at maturity.
