- Shoot rolled, cylindrical leaf sheath.
- Lamina 20-50 times longer than large, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous, dentate, auricles absent.
- Height: 20-60 cm. Cespitose.
- Stem rarely glabrous, covered by short and not scabrous hairs.
- Leaf with lamina covered with short hair on 2 sides. Lamina margin is particularly scabrous. Leaf sheath fused upto 2/3 of it's length.
- Very contracted inflorescence, dense, with branches clustered, all very short (less than 1 cm) and erect. Lemma of 10-130 mm bearing bent awn.
- - Risk of confusion at seedling stage with all others species of Bromus genus.
