- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath cylindrical.
- Lamina 20-50 times longer than large, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous dentate, auricles absent.
- Height 10-80 cm. Cespitose.
- Stem geniculate, ascending or erect, fibrous root unequal.
- Leaf green grey, lower and upper face hairy, margin ciliate, 3 veined, the middle one is more visible. Leaf sheath fused on 2/3 of it's length.
- Inflorescence: (panicle >10 cm), green, ovoid, erect, contracted after flowering, with short verticillate branches, clustered. Spikelets 1,5-2,5 mm, pubescent, pale green, glabrous and bright 6-12 florets of 2 cm long, lower glume with awn, almost equal to upper.
- Species rare in crops. But occasionally a problem weed in U.K., therefore, should this be omitted?
- Risk of confusion at seedling stage with all others species of
Bromus genus.
