The -Plant propagates vegetatively (rhizomes ); establishment from seedling is rare.

-Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than wide, leaf more or less hairy.

-Height : 30-80 cm. Plant pubescent at nodes, with an extensive and branched stock.
-Stem simple, erect, stiff, bare at tip, with 3-6 nodes.
-Leaves glaucous, long, erect, rolled at the end, narrow, stiff with prominent equal veins. Leaf blade and sheath scabrous - margined.
-Inflorescence : elongate spike, distichous with 5-12 solitary spikelets ; lemma slightly longer than palea, mucronate or with 3- 5 times shorter awn.
-Rare in crops.
