- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath cylindrical.
- Leaf blade 20-50 times longer than broad, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous, dentate, auricles absent.
- Height: 10-40 cm. Plant cespitose, hairy on nodes, on blades and sometimes on leaf sheath and spikelets.
- Stems stiff, bare on the tip.
- Leaves light-green, short, flat, sparcely hairy, scabrous. Long hairs on the margin of the blade.
- Inflorescence : spike short ( 5-10 cm), stiff with 1-5 spikelets very closed, sessile, erect. Awn longer than the lemma.
- Rare in crops, protected in Poitou-Charentes (:19/04/88 decree) [France]. Presence of triazine resistant populations in Israel.
