- Lamina 20-50 time longer than large more or less hairy.

- Ligule membranous dentate. Auricles absent.

- Height: 40-100 cm. Cespitose.

- Stem robust, erect and glabrous.

- Leaves flat, glabrous, scabrid, 3-6 mm wide. Lower face flat slightly shiny. Base of leaf sheath coloured dark red .

- Inflorescence: Panicle of 15-30 cm purplish or greenish, pyramidal and spread at flowering, very diffuse. Unequal glumes, lower glumella fitted under the top of awn 4-6 times longer than spikelet.

- Biological type: annual.
