- Shoot rolled, leaf sheath cylindrical.
- Lamina 20-50 times longer than wide, leaf more or less hairy.
- Ligule membranous cut, auricles absent, tuft of hairs on each side of lamina.

- Stem glabrous or slightly hairy, slender often branched at the base.
- Leaves narrow 2-4mm.
- Inflorescence: short panicle (1-3 cm), thin, slack. Spikelet about 5 mm whitish-green, lemmas of sterile florets and fertile florets possess different types of awns.
